Italy · Cliffside towns stacked above a turquoise sea
The Amalfi Coast is a 50-kilometer stretch of coastal road where lemon groves cling to terraced hillsides and pastel-colored towns spill down cliffs toward the water. It's dramatic in the most literal sense — every drive along the SS163 delivers a new switchback view.
Positano gets the postcards, but Amalfi town itself, Ravello up in the hills, and the quieter fishing village of Praiano all offer their own version of the same coastline without quite the same crowds or prices.
Late May to mid-June or September delivers warm, swimmable weather without the August crowds and prices.
Fly into Naples (NAP), then take a ferry from Naples or Salerno directly to Amalfi or Positano — faster and more scenic than the coastal bus.
